The Summer University 2001 follows on from the first one held at Balamand, Lebanon in July 1997 about "Control and Instrumentation". The second one held at the JUST university (Irbid, Jordan) in August 1999, about "Control and Communications". And the third one held at the HIAST (Damascus, Syria) in August 2000, about "communication & industrial automation".
This series of summer Universities are intended for institutions and Universities in the Middle East which have already introduced, or are in the process of developing, courses for the training of engineers and technicians in those technological fields useful for local industry.

Topics
The subject adopted for this Summer University 2001 "Technology Education", includes 3 themes.

1. Development methods for FPGA: Objectives are To study, with a very concrete approach, the development methods for programmable logic circuits, To know the state of the art and the architecture of FPGA and CPLD, To learn VHDL language, To present different development tools, rather cheap and well adapted to pedagogical purposes.
2. Power Electronics Applied to AC Motor Drives: Objectives are: To deal with converters used with AC drives, to use computer simulation in power electronics and in electromagnetic analysis, to apply for induction and Brushless motors.
3. Bases of digital signal processing, from the software to the implementation on a DSP card: Objectives are: To implement simple applications of digital signal processing on a specialized DSP cards by using a suited environment of development. To review the state of the art in architecture for digital signal processing and associated tools.

Each session is organized in 8 days on about 40 hours of both, conferencing and experiments
